Sensory Deprivation
Sensory deprivation is a type of sexual play in which one or more sense is hindered. The reasoning behind this is that, when a sense is removed, the other senses become more heightened. The most common types of sensory deprivation have to do with the sense of sight, especially because this is often considered humans’ strongest sense which they rely upon most heavily. It is very easy to remove a person’s sight by using blindfolds, hoods, or masks. After sight, removal of the hearing sense is also common by using earmuffs or plugs.
There are more complex methods for removing senses of touch, smell and taste though these are usually only found in groups of experienced sensory deprivation fetishists. One example of these groups can be found at the large dating site Alt.com. Some of these Alt.com members have specially designed chambers which work to reduce all but one sense. These devices are usually referred to as REST, or Restrictive Environmental Stimulation Therapy. One example of REST in sexual sensory deprivation play is by putting a person in a pool which will reduce gravity and change familiar sensations. Those who are interested in exploring sensory deprivation should check out Alt.com and meet the members there.
