Sadism
Sadists receive sexual pleasure by causing pain in other people, both physically and mentally. When referring to sadism, the term sadomasochism is often used. This is a blanket term which refers to the practice of a sadist inflicting pain upon a masochist, both of whom receive sexual arousal from the experience. In popular culture and the BDSM community such as at Alt.com, these acts are almost always consensual. A sadist, known as a master/mistress or dominatrix (amongst many other terms), is usually a skilled practitioner who can inflict pain in a controlled way. A person in this dominant role will know, for example, how to use a bull whip to cause the desires amount of pain but without causing permanent damage.
