Master/Slave is a consensual relationship in BDSM practices.  As far as the acronym goes, the relationship refers to the Dominance and Submission aspect or willing power exchange.  While Master/Slave relationships are often sexual, they do not have to be.  This type of relationship is often acting out in role playing but it should be noted that temporary roles do not qualify as a true master/slave status.  These types of relationships usually take time to develop.  Most importantly, the slave is always submissive to the master, even outside of a BDSM session.  Slaves go through a progressive training where he or she is taught to act, speak and even think by the master’s standards.  This often involves discipline and aversion training like spanking and so forth.  That is why a master is usually also considered a sadist whereas the slave is a masochist.
